Our featured player this week is Kurt Schmitt. Kurt is another one of the new players that the Tigers have acquired this season. Kurt comes to us via Ryan Pitt. They were teammates a few years ago in the Fredonia league. The first time Kurt showed up for a batting cage session this past winter, Ryan introduced him to me and said, "this is Kurt. He claims to not have touched a weight in years." Yeah. And I haven't eaten a doughnut since I was 7. Other than his physique, the most noticeable characteristic that stood out about Kurt was his intensity, even just during practice. Pitt explained, "oh yeah. Kurt only has one speed...Go!" In real life, Kurt is an eye doctor. So far, his impressive knowledge of vision hasn't helped him much at the plate, but this past game has finally shown signs that he might be breaking out of his slump. He finally connected on Sunday with what looked to be a sure double or maybe a triple, that he stretched into a stand-up single. In his spare time, Kurt enjoys spending time at the lake, watching movies and doing anything really, that doesn't include him getting to games early enough for BP. |
